a new comedy by Michael Aitkens, directed by David Grindley
Two of the UK’s best loved comic actors, Roy Hudd and Nichola McAuliffe, lead the cast in this premiere stage production of the BAFTA nominated Waiting For God, which delighted television audiences in the 1990s. This all-new script is penned by the sitcom’s creator Michael Aitkens.
All the favourite characters from the original comedy series are reimagined for 2017, facing the challenges that come with growing old disgracefully in the era of the silver surfer.
At Bayview Retirement Home, battle-axe extraordinaire Diana Trent conspires with new resident Tom Ballard to give the conniving manager his comeuppance through a hilarious conspiracy with unexpectedly heart-warming results.
Roy Hudd’s satirical radio programme, The News Huddlines ran on Radio 2 from 1975-2002. On television his work ranges from Dennis Potter’s Lipstick on your Collar and Karaoke to Common As Muck, Coronation Street and Broadchurch. In the West End he starred as Fagin in the revival of Oliver! and played Bud Flanagan in Underneath the Arches for which he won an Olivier Award.
Nichola McAuliffe won an Olivier Award for her role in the RSC’s Kiss Me Kate. On television she starred in Surgical Spirit, Coronation Street and Victoria. Recent stage work includes Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Lady in the Van, Home and Maurice’s Jubillee, which she also wrote.
Tony Award winner David Grindley’s directing credits include Journey’s End and Sideways and Kafka’s Dick, A Steady Rain, Pygmalion and The American Plan in Bath.
